PodCast Review

Serial is a story telling podcast hosted by Sarah Koenig. She was also apart of the popular podcast known as "This American Life", and just like that is is also produced in Chicago. This podcast tells a story of a high school disappearing in the year 1999. Season one depicts the course of a six week investigation and it ends when her ex boyfriend is arrested for her murder. Although, he says he is innocent the evidence still needs to be fact checked. The course of the podcasts follow a story line that goes with the entirety of her disappearing/murder mystery. My own thoughts about this blog is that I enjoyed it because of the story like telling. It was not so much factual instead almost someone simply retelling you a story. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this podcast and I wouldn't mind listening to season 2 of the Serial Series.

This chapter emphasized how important social media usage is in the marketing and advertising world. For starters, marketing and advertising is the promotion of a product and or company. Social media impacts this in numerous ways for example, coverage is one aspect. By this I mean that social media enables something to be spread like wildfire in a matter of seconds. Also social media enables repetition and it is a common fact that the more someone sees something the higher likelihood that the person will remember the product. One other interesting factor explained in this chapter was how important reviews are on websites. This is known as earned exposure. This occurs when someone enjoys the product and or company and takes the time out of their personal life to comment about it on social media. Lets face it how often does anyone do anything without checking the reviews first! This applies to restaurants, travel destinations, technology, even towns and districts. This is one of the many ways social media impacts advertising and marketing. While this particular topic interested me there were other points discussed in the chapter that were extremely interesting such as a EWOM, strategic planning, and search engine optimization. All in all, this chapter is crucial to using social media the correct  way.

This chapter involved my group discussing how Public Relations effects social media use. Public Relations is how a corporation or a person is seen by the public Usually the PR department and or person shines their client in a positive light. The use of social media has influenced PR over the last decade and more. Through posts, tweets, statuses, and even videos the Public Relations department uses these devices to show how great the company or the person they are representing truly is. Social media platforms have made a fortune for public relations companies seeing as there are departments to critique and decide what goes up on the world wide web. All in all, Public Relations and Social media work hand in hand in modern day culture.

One of the most interesting things about this chapter I would say would have to be how much social media is affecting modern day journalism. For example, social media platforms are making it so easy for people all around the world to communicate and stay connected. One prime example of this would be Twitter, a social media app that posts up in a form of a tweet and allows others to follow you and allows you to be updated on world wide news. This has also been a platform for a mass amount of people to share tweets about the same topic with the use of a hashtag. One other interesting thing about the use of social media for journalism is now an days a person has complete access to any newspaper corporation with the simple click of an app. There is no need for a physical paper to read up on the news anymore. These and so many other forms of social media are improving the way journalism is being utilized around the world.

This chapter discusses social networks and it even goes all the way back to the oldest form of social networking site such as myspace. People soon discovered the appeal of social networks in the sense that you were able to do so much from the comfort of your own home. You can show the world your pictures, like and comment on others photos and even share your thoughts with others in the form of status's or tweets. Yet, there is so much more when using social networking sites. For example, it is a phenomenal way to spread word about your possible business, even read about job postings, and most important of all you are able to network. This is the one of the most important aspects of being a professional in this world, your ability to network. Now, when there is good there is also bad. Social Networks are capable of being hacked, altered, and even deleted if it came to that circumstance. Overall, the message behind social networks is the idea of communication.

Innovation Geeks Team Project

Team Presentation Plan

It will include:
1.  Chapter 4 Week 7
2.  Team Members: Ashley Macias ,Courtney Glynn, Yojanda Anglada, Jahniece Styles
 3.  Responsibility of each member in planning and creating:
-Courtney: Create ppt, divide sections to present, add photos
-Jahniece: Key words and animations
-Yojanda: summarize the main point of the chapter & look for videos
- Ashley: Create the charts, quotes, graphs, and find the discussion questions
-Everyone: activity ( Kahoot, worksheet, game)
4.  Timeline: Due date March 8th. Will divide up sections of our chapter and add to the ppt each week little by little, and meet during class time to make sure we’re all on the same page every Thursday
5.  Presentation roles:
-Jahniece: Present key words, introduce game
-Courtney: Introduce our chapter, names,  
- Ashley: Discuss the visual aids and talk about how it relates to real life situations
-Yojanda: Hand out and explain the class activity
 6.  Self-Assessment Plan: Fact-checking, works cited, time oriented goals, communication via email, face to face
  • Review other group members slides
  • Set times for when things are due
  • Make specific goals and complete them
7.  Troubleshooting for potential problems:
  • Lack of access to online sources: Create dates to meet and work together outside of class time
  • Lack of communication: Utilize the group chat, ask questions to avoid misunderstanding
  • Troublesome team member: Discuss in a respectful manner and give warnings about being voted off the island.
